Outside of work, there are many places to visit like Twin Pagoda Temple and Congshan Temple – some are even free, like the Shanxi Museum.
The city (and Shanxi province in general) is known best for its simple yet rich and hearty cuisine. From knife-cut noodles to steamed dumplings, there are no shortage of Chinese delicacies for you to enjoy.
Congshan Temple is located in the midst of the hutongs (small alleyways) near May 1st Square. The main hall has a statue of Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy, who has 1000 hands and eyes
The brand-new modern Shanxi Museum has over 200,000 pieces on display. The main building is shaped in a combination of two Chinese ancient cooking vessels, the Dou and the Ding
