EF was founded in 1965 by Bertil Hult, an entrepreneur with a penchant for success and a passion for international education. Over the next 30 years, EF continued to expand globally and in 1997, EF opened a local English language training center branch in Shanghai, China.
In 2020, ever in favor of innovation and growth, we chartered a new direction, becoming English1. While we continue to share a deep connection to our long history, we have been excited to embark on this new journey to divert more resources and attention to the amazing students and staff of EF English First.
EF English First has been a notable force in education and development since 1965 with schools and offices in major cities in China and Indonesia.
The first thing everyone notices when they join EF English First, is our company culture. EFers share the same love for fun, adventure, and teaching. It’s our people who make our organisation such a dynamic and fun place to work.
We believe the world is better when people try to understand one another. Everyone deserves a fair opportunity to learn and thrive no matter where you are from, who you love, or the color of your skin.
With many training centers in all major cities across China and Indonesia, along with offices across China, Indonesia, and Switzerland, EF English First focuses on offering the best language journey for kids.
At EF English First, we take huge pride in our students. Once you meet them, you will too. Our schools offer dynamic and fun environments, while our curriculum combines digital media with traditional classroom resources. We are also committed to the development and safety of our students.
Everything we do is designed not only to nurture a love for the English language, but to also help our young learners become more well-rounded individuals as they engage with lessons, develop, and grow. Our expertise and skills delivered by our teachers are what make us a passionate and successful company.
Our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging (DEIB) Team here at EF English First is committed to promoting a workplace that is not only diverse, but equitable, inclusive, healthy, and a safe place where our staff feel they belong. Through proactive recruitment and talent retention, training, shared educational resources, and development opportunities, we are creating a company where we can each bring our unique, authentic selves, while working together to create innovative developments.
